This tiny little thing was originally written over a year ago (As of 15/09/2024). While I still like the overall conversation note that nowadays I disagree with my past decision to retain the pronunciation of Grian and Scar's names as closely as possible. I don't have a name for Scar at present but Grian would be called zvoivo (yara).

This is meant to be set pretty soon after Scar and Grian met in my silly little AU where Grian and Scar were married before either of them were on hermitcraft.

"Baaahbya!" Scar says cheerfully as he meets Grian in the park.

Grian stares at him.

"Bahbya?" Scar repeats, now wondering if he's completely off base.

Grian stares a few moments longer. It does nothing for Scar's confidence.

"You know, that thing you say when you call your sister. I figured it meant hello?"

"bapj?" Grian asks.

"Yeah, that!"

Grian repeats the word more slowly, struggling to minimise the automatic echo his voice carries when he uses his native language. "bapj."

"Bah-ya?"

"You've gotta close your mouth for the stop."

"bapya."

"j"

"Gyuh"

"j"

"Gy?"

"bapj."

"bapj!" Scar echoes, delighted.

"bapj, sqh."

"Wait, what was that?"

"'sqh'is how I'd say your name, Scar."

"It's all weird and clicky!"

"I'm so sorry my language doesn't have a hard 'c', however will we survive this injustice."

"How do you say your name, then?"

"jifp. Grian."
